Osteoporosis is known as the silent disease because it is often not recognized until we see its effect through changes such as height loss,hyper-kyphosis, or a fragility fracture.10 million Americans have osteoporosis, and an additional 34 million have osteopenia, placing them at increased risk for osteoporosis.One in two women, and one in four men over age 50 will suffer an osteoporosis related hip, spine or wrist fracture in their lifetime.
